Dr. Phil Foundation to Award Lutheran Family Service of Colorado with Gift on Upcoming DR. PHIL Show
COLORADO, May 27, 2008 — The Dr. Phil Foundation will make a significant contribution to Lutheran Family Services of Colorado (LFS) on the Wednesday, May 28, 2008 episode of DR. PHIL (check local listings), it was announced today by Jim Barclay, CEO of LFS. The grant will be used as an "enrichment fund" for children and their foster care programs. This gift, which is the second by the foundation to LFS, will be used to enable children in foster care to participate in such things as music lessons/programs, dance classes, summer camps and athletics, as well as to purchase instruments or team uniforms. " The Dr. Phil Foundation will make a difference in the lives of these and other children," said Barclay.
The DR. PHIL episode, entitled Against All Odds, will focus on how people can make a positive difference in the lives of foster children and take a look at the difficult journey of two very special young lives.
Tania came into the LFS system as a medically fragile baby. She had a non-accidental head trauma and was believed to have been violently shaken as a baby. Gabriel also came into the program in the same delicate condition having been diagnosed with Epidermolysis Bullosa, a severe condition that does not allow the skin to bond which makes him always a risk for infection.
With the $20,000 received in the 2006 Dr. Phil Foundation grant, LFS was able to provide enrichment funds for 109 foster children. LFS hopes to stretch the 2008 grant even further by inviting people who care about vulnerable children to add their own personal donations to this fund so that even more children can experience opportunities that are otherwise financially impossible in the foster care system.
